Description

What do you get when you combine two of the most iconic comfort foods on the planet—a gooey grilled cheese and a savory hot dog? You get a mind-blowingly delicious creation that might just become your new favorite snack! This recipe is the quick, easy, and genius hack for a next-level treat: a juicy beef frank, wrapped in a slice of melty cheese, all rolled up in buttery, golden-toasted bread. Thanks to the air fryer, the bread gets unbelievably crispy in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

(Per 2 wraps)

  • 2 Slices of Bread (standard sandwich bread)
  • 2 teaspoons Mayonnaise (or softened butter)
  • 2 slices Sliced Cheese (American or Cheddar)
  • 2 Beef Franks (Hot Dogs)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Lay the bread slices on a work surface. Spread a thin, even layer of mayonnaise on one side of each slice, edge to edge. Flip the bread slices over.
  2. Assemble: On the plain (un-mayoed) side of each slice, place one slice of cheese. Place one hot dog diagonally or straight across the cheese.
  3. Roll and Secure: Tightly roll the bread around the hot dog. Secure the seam and ends of each roll with 2-3 toothpicks, piercing all the way through the hot dog to hold it shut.
  4. Air Fry: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the toothpick-secured hot dog wraps in the air fryer basket, seam-side down if possible. Do not let them touch.
  5. Cook and Serve: Air fry for 3-4 minutes. Check, and if not yet golden brown and crispy, add 1-minute increments until done. Carefully remove from the basket, and remember to remove all toothpicks before serving hot.

Notes

  • Mayo for Crispiness: Using mayonnaise on the outside of a grilled cheese is a pro-tip! The oil and egg in mayo create a superior, golden-brown, and crispy crust that’s more foolproof than butter.
  • Flatten the Bread: You can gently flatten the bread slices with a rolling pin before adding the cheese and hot dog, which can make them easier to roll without cracking.
  • Toothpicks are Crucial: This step is mandatory! Without toothpicks, the bread will unroll in the air fryer as it heats up, and you’ll end up with a mess.
  • No Parchment: Do not use parchment paper for this. You want maximum air circulation to crisp up the bread.
