Description
These Slow Cooker Cracker Barrel Fried Apples capture the cozy, cinnamon-sweet flavor of the classic Southern side—right in your own kitchen. Tender apple wedges simmer in a buttery, glossy syrup that’s perfect beside pork chops or scooped over vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Fried Apples
- 3.5 lb apples, peeled, cored & sliced (Golden Delicious or Granny Smith) (about 1/2-inch thick wedges)
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prep the apples: Peel, core, and slice apples into uniform 1/2-inch wedges. Add to the slow cooker. Toss with lemon juice and vanilla to coat.
- Mix the spiced glaze: In a bowl, whisk cornstarch, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over apples and toss gently.
- Add butter & cook: Pour melted butter over apples and toss again. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours (or HIGH for about 2 hours) until apples are tender but hold shape.
- Finish & serve: Stir once halfway through. Sauce thickens as it cools slightly. Serve warm as a side or over ice cream.
Notes
Apple picks: Granny Smith for a tart bite; Golden Delicious for a softer, sweeter result.
Texture tip: Cut evenly to avoid mushy/thick pieces.
Make-ahead: Cooled apples keep 4–5 days refrigerated; rewarm gently.
Variations: Add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of apple cider for deeper flavor.
