Description

What’s the one party food that always disappears first? It’s the Hawaiian Ham and Cheese Slider! This recipe takes the classic combination of sweet honey ham and nutty Swiss cheese and nestles it inside fluffy Hawaiian sweet rolls. The real magic is in the topping: a savory, buttery glaze spiked with poppy seeds, Dijon mustard, and onion powder that bakes into a golden, flavorful crust. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and savory in every single bite.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Sliders:

  • 1 package (12 count) Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
  • 24 slices Deli Honey Ham (thinly sliced)
  • 6 slices Swiss Cheese, cut into fourths
  • 1/3 cup Mayonnaise

For the Savory Butter Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) Salted Butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon Mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Poppy Seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Onion Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

  1. Prep Rolls and Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the entire package of rolls in half horizontally without separating them. Place the bottom slab in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Assemble: Spread mayonnaise over the cut side of the bottom slab. Layer folded ham slices onto each roll, followed by the quartered Swiss cheese. Place the top slab of rolls over the cheese.
  3. Make Glaze: In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Glaze and Rest: Brush or pour the butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls, letting it drip down the sides. Cover with foil and let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  5. Bake: Bake covered for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 2 minutes until cheese is melted and tops are browned.
  6. Serve: Let cool slightly, cut apart, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Keep Connected: Don’t separate the rolls individually before slicing! Keeping them connected as a slab makes assembly much faster and easier.
  • Texture Trick: Folding the ham slices rather than laying them flat creates more height and texture in your sliders.
  • Soak it Up: The 10-minute resting time before baking is crucial! It allows the buttery glaze to soak into the bread, ensuring the rolls are flavorful and moist.
  • Watch the Tops: Keep an eye on the rolls during the final 2 minutes of uncovered baking to ensure they get golden toasty, not burnt.
