Equipment

  • 9-inch baking dish or quiche pan
  • Microwave
  • Oven
  • Spatula

Ingredients

Cheese Dip

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened slightly; full-fat for best texture
  • 2 cups grated cheese cheddar for classic flavor, or jalapeño jack for heat
  • 1 cup mayonnaise use real mayo for best results
  • 1 small purple onion finely diced; sub green onions for milder flavor

Instructions

  • Prepare the dish: Add cream cheese, grated cheese, mayonnaise, and diced purple onion directly to a shallow 9-inch baking dish. No mixing bowl needed.
  • Pre-melt: Microwave the unmixed ingredients on high for about 2 minutes, just until the cheeses soften for easy stirring.
  • Stir to combine: Mix vigorously with a spatula until smooth, thick, and evenly combined.
  • Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and the edges are bubbling.
  • Serve: Rest 1–2 minutes and serve hot. Great with sturdy dippers like Wheat Thins or Frito’s Scoops.

Notes

For extra heat, use jalapeño jack or add minced pickled jalapeños. Swap purple onion for green onions if serving kids. Double for a crowd and bake in a 9×13 pan. Refrigerate leftovers up to 3 days; reheat gently.
